Entrepreneurial Competencies of Stationary Vendors in the Historic Center of the City of Barranquilla (Atlantic)

Abstract

From a global point of view, and also in the particular Colombian case, entrepreneurs constitute a fundamental axis of commercial activity and the promotion of entrepreneurial activity requires the study of entrepreneurial skills typical of the local context where said activity is carried out. With this purpose, this research work analyzes the skills that affect the entrepreneurship of stationary vendors located between career 43 and 41 in the historic center of the city of Barranquilla. For this, a closed-answer questionnaire applied to a sample of 60 sellers was developed. The data obtained was quantified based on the frequencies and percentages of the data collected to later analyze the incidence factors in the venture of stationary vendors using descriptive statistics to measure frequencies and percentages of the selected alternatives.
Thus, it was determined that the competences for entrepreneurship present a high presence of incidence factors, highlighting aspects such as interpersonal relationships, initiative and decision-making, while entrepreneurship factors, efficiency, ethical considerations and determining factors for entrepreneurship. They have a moderate presence. 64% of the sellers surveyed are men and 36% are women. 67% of individuals enter the age range of 25 to 50 years. 34% of the individuals have completed high school in whole or in part, while 26% have already finished or are studying a professional career. 47% of the sellers live in municipalities of the metropolitan area of the city of Barranquilla and close to 40% of them are not even from Barranquilla. As a final conclusion, a series of actions to be carried out aimed at strengthening the venture in the stationary vendors located in the historic center of the city of Barranquilla were proposed.
